I have never once been able to get anything more than a wet sputtering sound out of a horn by blowing through it. I think I lack some sort of horn-blowing gene necessary to do so.

You actually have to start the vibration with your tongue or your lips. The horn just amplifies the sound you start.
Yeah, you are actually blowing a raspberry, not simply blowing a horn
