At first I thought they might have been pulled into a limbo that these three were already in, but they seem to be suddenly relieved, So I guess the torture ended… Something about the blade from a memory world maybe? Actually makes some sense if it’s summoned country music from real world somehow.
I think for the first time in the story I get to admire Bree’s sister, especially nicely drawn in panel 4 IMO.
What’s her name? She’s not in the characters page.
Anyway, of course stabbing a flame shouldn’t work, I just don’t get why slashing would do either. Have you girls tried the obvious way?, which according to a mediocre joke my sister used to tell when we were kids, is wetting the tip of your fingers and pressing onto the tip of the candle.
Sure, why not but the joke was about three sisters, one of which had her lower lip atop of her upper lip and blowed upwards and told the other sister with funny voice: “sis, sis, I can’t blow off the candle!”. Then the sister comes and she has the opposite defect, with the upper lip overlapping the lower one and thus blowing downwards and no luck. Then, “sis, sis, we can’t blow off the candle!”. The third sister comes and she has no defect and speaks normally, maybe with a high pitch if anything and, she turns off the candle with her fingers… which is funny if told with half-decent acting in person.
I was once invited to my aunt and uncle’s for dinner, with their young children. It was their custom to light a single candle on the table, and at the end of dinner, one of the children would blow it out. End of dinner, one of the kids declares “It’s my turn to blow out the candle!” and blew out the candle. I went, “Darn, I wanted to blow out the candle”, which prompted my aunt to relight the candle so I could blow it out. Except, I pinched it out. Dead silence as the kids’ jaws dropped, followed by pandemonium as they all clamored for the opportunity to try it themselves.
I was honestly fearful that I would never be invited back.
Thanks, Maju! Did I really leave Paige out of the character page? On one hand, I feel bad about the oversight, but, on the other hand, it seems kind of appropriate that nobody remembered to acknowledge her contribution to the story, and her thankless toil, once again, goes unrecognized.
Yeah, Paige the page was out of the character page, it seems.
She’s been sorta the unclear secondary character out of the blue (as her hair suggests) but now that we’ve all focused on her +7 katana with unexpected magical powers, I wonder if another mysterious secondary character, this one from the Grayworld, we have met before is not the same person. Have we seen them together ever or is just that some dungeon master has a fascination for girls with katanas? Hmmmm…
The three of them were tied up and suffering for quite a while, and Bree’s sister has just set them free. I wonder if they will be grateful to her, and how grateful they will be?
The music is from The Kendalls (as charlesw81 well said)
Heaven’s Just a Sin Away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0ZK1DvTBpw
Heaven’s just a sin away, oh-whoa, just a sin away
I can’t wait another day, I think I’m giving in
I love to hold you tight, oh-whoa, be with you tonight
But that still won’t make it right ’cause I belong to him
Oh, way down deep inside, I know that it’s all wrong
Your eyes keep tempting me and I never was that strong
Devil’s got me now, oh-whoa, gone and got me now
I can’t fight him anyhow, I think he’s gonna win
Heaven’s just a sin away, oh-whoa, just a sin away
Heaven help me when I say I think I’m giving in
Oh, way down deep inside, I know that it’s all wrong
Your eyes keep tempting me and I never was that strong
Devil’s got me now, oh-whoa, gone and got me now
I can’t fight him anyhow, I think he’s gonna win
Heaven’s just a sin away, oh-whoa, just a sin away
Heaven help me when I say I think I’m giving in
Heaven’s just a sin away, oh-whoa, just a sin away
I can’t wait another day, I think I’m giving in
I love to hold you tight, oh-whoa, be with you tonight
But that still won’t make it right ’cause I belong to him
So, who was sneering at ‘little Paige’ and her visit to the pocket world? I think Mr Hunter heard you. I love both these sisters, each for their different, conflicting characters.
But this, and the previous episode, are just brilliant, classics in the “Delve” series, which has, over the years, just got better and better. The artwork is magnificent, but, in addition, the facial expressions, the humour, the banter, Bree rather haughty, Paige scornful, and the sword-spirit girls going “Ow! Ow! Ow!” – hilarious. And then the last panel, the shrine-girls saved – hurray! – and the water… And the country music song – which, no, I wouldn’t have recognised, so thanks to those who did, and the full lyrics, thanks, guys! Does it make sense? Well, see next episode, I guess, but it was a fun. A delightful episode, and – once again – I love those two sisters! They are great together, proverbial chalk and cheese.
To be fair, Bree doesn’t look all that haughty here- she says to Paige “it’s not gonna be easy”, not “you won’t be able to”, and when she tries herself, she is “let me try something”, not “gonna teach you how it’s done” (plus, she is actually using the sword as focus for a spell, not just “stabbing things”). Overconfident? No doubt. Haughty? Surprisingly little.
That explains her annoyed face in panel 4 – she thinks Paige is understimating her honest best attempt.
And, hilariously, in last panel she seems more surprised by the country music (and the implication that Paige also has Grayside conexions) than frustrated (or even SURPRISED) that her little sister suceeded where she failed.
Yep. Subtle, but IMHO not just Paibe, but also Bree did just show character growth!
Accept that, haughty was the wrong word, see below. But the brittle edge to the two sisters is part of the fun, especially how Bree really make Paige bristle. But at the end of the day ‘blood is thicker than water’.
As I’ve said before, character growth (especially of the female characters) is another factor that makes “Delve” such a joy. Both have come a long way, and in a good way.
The method was what worked, not who did it
Paige’s magic did nothing, it was the sword she got from Jen’s room that saved the priestesses, and maybe if Breen tried the same trick instead of whatever that spell was (anyone remember what Achaeax is supposed to do?)
For amuement value, the method did NOT work. Bree’s method was to utter the binding spell creator’s true name. Sadly it didn’t work, as THIS binding spell turned out to be a different creator than the one that once held HER.
And little Guesticules forgets exactly who battled throuh worlds and hellish portals to obtain that sword. Sword which Bree could never attain – SHE would not be able to follow the trail (literally pointing to HERSELF) to an echo of her own graysider alter-ego. Literally ONLY Paige could use the crown to track that sword.
(mate, admit you were proved wrong and move on – there’s no dishonor in that path. There IS dishonor in the OTHER path, though).
Seems you were not paying atention. It explicitly pointed out that this is NOT Jen’s sword. It’s a COPY of Jen’s sword. https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/cold-one/
Won’t repeat myself explaining again why Jen/Bree would NEVER have been able to put her/their hands on THIS particular item – only on the original, most likely utterly mundane item.
And again as mentioned, the only person able to reach it would be the one holding the crown – that would be Paige. https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/probe/ (and a lot other comics where Paige points out that her father’s crown points towards where Bree really is, this is just the first explicit mention)
Whatever your beef with Paige, you really should stop the mental gymnastics. Just admit that perhaps, just perhaps, the author of the comic MIGHT be disagreeing with you on that matter…
https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/close-at-hand/
Place of origin of the sword.
I quote: “Pocket world. Has its own rules”.
Paige’s magic didn’t work there. It’s a safe bet to say that it disrupts “Delveworld” magic it enters in contact with.
If Paiges sword is from the greyworld, it might count as a antimagical minor artifact? Pseudoscientific explanantion: that spell is basically fueled by the victims, so when Paige momentarily interrupted the flow it collapsed.
Yes, i think you have it, Paige’s spells didn’t work in the Jen apartment pocket world, but the pocket world sword of Jen’s did, and does so again. Bree and Jen might be one now, but Paige has Jen’s clothes and her souvenir D&D game sword. Yeah, maybe ‘haughty’ was the wrong word, with Bree, but she doesn’t like Paige reminding her of her past “doing a runner” when things got a bit heavy with father, the King – see the ‘Mini Comic’ episodes of a younger Bree, and meeting her first rogue.
What do you have against Paige? If it wasn’t for her, Bree and Jen wouldn’t have got the Wood-Elf regal crown. See Wormius comment about about some people don’t appreciate her contribution to the story. “Delve” isn’t just about Bree, but about a number of female characters on a growth curve.
Anyway, more will be explained in the next episode.
Paige is cool. The sisters are both great, each in their different way.
Nothing, just that sometimes cutting through the bullshit is what is needed, and that in this case, magic wasn’t gonna cut it (not even Breen’s magic worked)
The Kendalls! That monster!
At first I thought they might have been pulled into a limbo that these three were already in, but they seem to be suddenly relieved, So I guess the torture ended… Something about the blade from a memory world maybe? Actually makes some sense if it’s summoned country music from real world somehow.
Without more details as how magic works, it’s hard to know.
Heh heh 8)
Suddenly the last incentive art makes more sense.
You mean that of Moonblade and Lassa at the fiery pits of the Dracomage’s last duungeon’s level? Was it level 99 maybe or was it 666? Whatever.
Yeah, it makes some sense.
I think for the first time in the story I get to admire Bree’s sister, especially nicely drawn in panel 4 IMO.

Wetted fingers is an excellent way to snuff a candle.
Sure, why not but the joke was about three sisters, one of which had her lower lip atop of her upper lip and blowed upwards and told the other sister with funny voice: “sis, sis, I can’t blow off the candle!”. Veeeerrry grrratefuuuul, I’m sure.
But that part is surely only in Patreon. ;p
It seems they have been relocated from the shrine to a swamp …
It is country music .. I recognize the tune … so maybe they have been relocated to a Louisana Bayou?
Fairly sure that that was what that area was before Stonefucker showed up
They should be glad it wasn’t ‘Rainbow Connection’ 😛
I’m sure they’ll soon be…

Thanks! I was hoping someone besides me would know the song!
How to solve a problem like Bree:
#1: Try stabbing it
#2: Try fucking it
If the above failed, just run away!
You always stab before fucking? I’m pretty sure that’s the wrong approach, try roses maybe?, or at least telling a joke…
Wouldn’t hurt to try chocolate.
8)
Stab them with chocolate. In the mouth, slowly, ensure chocolate is blunt for extra intimidation.

Thank you!
well.. i guess paige didn’T expect Bree’s method to actually work? would explain her rather dumbfound look there 😉
She should try to listen to her big sis from time to time.
But you have to have the right sword! Big sister’s threesome blade didn’t hack it. So still points to Paige.
The faces are priceless.
The method was what worked, not who did it

… You can’t have a copy without an original
Again, it was the method that worked, not who or what did it
So what the heck kind of sword does Paige have? Did I miss something?
Your usual mithrill +7 enchanted elven katana. Regular issue among Elven nobility ranks, I presume.
(Or whatever. It did work and nobody knows why, maybe the gods’ blessing?)

Ah, okay that brings back he memories. Thanks so much for the link.
Aaaaah! Nice to know. Thus she’s not the same as Imugi but the swords may still be related (at the very least via some Japanese master blacksmith).
If Paiges sword is from the greyworld, it might count as a antimagical minor artifact? Pseudoscientific explanantion: that spell is basically fueled by the victims, so when Paige momentarily interrupted the flow it collapsed.
Is it? That would be a nice explanation indeed.
it’s even better than that – see my answer to SFCGator’s post
Yes, i think you have it, Paige’s spells didn’t work in the Jen apartment pocket world, but the pocket world sword of Jen’s did, and does so again. Someone was NOT expecting that to work.
