Did you ever notice that, no matter what kind of injury the hero has suffered, they’re always served broth of some sort during recovery? Like they’ve caught a cold and need chicken soup. Then again, I guess steak and a baked potato would be a little difficult to eat while sitting in bed.
And even harder to digest. An injured person can’t afford the energy digesting a proper meal would require.
The soup is easier to get down, but in movies there’s also a matter of scenography to pay attention to. The bowl of soup or the tall cardboard container with Chinese food doesn’t let the audience see their contents, so you can re-shoot and edit the scene as you please without worrying about the quantity of food breaking viewer immersion by fluctuating weirdly.
