Nah, that would be my sucky attempt at compositing a computer-generated crowd of naked elves into the background. It proved to be way more difficult than I had anticipated, and I had to make the choice between scrapping the whole idea and starting over, making the comic late for the week, or cutting my losses and going with the best version I had so far.
In short, I’m not terribly happy with the results and certainly won’t be doing it that way again, but sometimes, when you try new things, they don’t work out, and you have to make a choice between finishing on schedule and loving the final product.
So, why not just keep at it until it’s perfect?
Because, I learned, some time ago, that this comic was never gonna make it unless I kept the momentum of the weekly updates. If I ever let it slip, the demons in my head are gonna jump all over that and say, “You could really do better, you know… you should probably keep working on the comic until it’s perfect.”
So, did the quality of this week’s comic suffer because I tried something new?
Definitely.
Does it interfere with the narrative flow of the story?
The arena is still pretty cool, and anyway your desolation panel last week was fricking excellent. Even classic novels or movies still have imperfections. You’re in good company.
And Bree this week in the Incentive Art makes up for anything!! 🙂
I love your comic, and if I may be so bold, you have had so many creative wins over the years while also keeping the momentum of the story going that one panel–not the rest of the page which looks great but just one panel–that didn’t meet your standard doesn’t detract meaningfully from this awesome creative body of work.
Am I the only one that is hoping grey skin will say that he was behind the attack on Warmheart’s clutch and it causes her to revert to her original size, and we find out that she’s older then the grey skinned scheißkopf
I am sure the black dragon is planning to complete his act of genocide.
But given that Bree was following a group of captives being herded into that arena / barbecue pit, I am expecting her to be around with that pointy-bit-of-dragonslaying that she has collected on the way here. And she is far too experienced a rogue to let herself be herded into that obvious death trap.
The only real questions are: where in the forest edge is she hiding, and how is she going to get close enough to Evil McEvilFace to stab him with part of an arrow. Preferably before he gets all big and scaley (as that complicates her job a lot).
Fried elves incoming…
…what a bell-end.
Yeah, this isn’t ominous.
is that a random photo of a nude beach put in the center of the arena?

excellent opportunity for a vote incentive image!

“Lo mejor es enemigo de lo bueno” = “best is enemy of good”.

He’s so evil he’s not even interested in elven sex. He deserves all that befalls him, really.

Of course she’s older than greyshit
And yeah, he is probably the one responsible for her eggs becoming greenskin breakfast
I appreciate the update and love the comic. The arena looks good and scary. I am worried about the wood elves.
