Happy Ending

Very eloquent, Sark.
And thanks to Fraex for the idea for this one! I couldn’t think of a better way for Sephni to wrap things up here.

…I feel confused.
You’re not the only one.
Me too.
With this story thread having so much meta parts, we just cannot guess if something is literal or metaphysical.
This was the best idea for a ending?
I think she just petrified everyone within the elven kingdom, thereby locking them into their “Happily Ever After.”
That’s a creative interpretation of “lived?”
Seems like a reasonable way to keep anything bad from happening to her subjects.
Especially if she knows something really bad is coming down the pike. Protective petrification?
Remember what happened to that statue of that elf goddess with the hoof?
Being prettified only saves you from old age (you really don’t want to see what happens when the pretificationing wears off after they have been moved to the rock-garden…)
Agree, anyone in her kingdom is petrified as the story had ended. Possibly a power of the throne or of a royal on the throne. Whatever the case it appears to have gone out and impacted others beyond.
Only Paige, Bree and Sark appear to have felt it beyond. Bree and Sark, presumably as Player Characters. Maybe Bree because of her otherworldly items or travels seems to feel a headache.
Arka has the eye that from her healing of warmheart crying or weeping. Unsure if its because of the story end or what Warmheart is going through.
Looks to be confined to the elf kingdom, presumably some power of the throne- the one that rules has power over the kingdom. Imugi unaffected makes sense, but what will she think of this? And of course, I can’t really see Bree taking kindly to finding out Seph glassed her own country.
“Rainy Day Women”, eh?
I guess Patrons will find this a somewhat … um … coitus interruptus way to abandon ship and take a vacation? If so, we have enjoyed the moments … Have a nice summer Wormius!
Thanks! …but, sadly, I was out of range of Sephni’s spell, and it doesn’t seem to work on us graysiders anyway, so… see you next week!
What is the power of that throne?!
Either way looks like some of the Elven nation, save Bree were petrified into a happy ending… and Miko as well for some reason… I could see Sephni wanting this, but now…
Apparently Taurus to the 12th power, very magical (not, I wouldn’t say so but whatever).
I guess it’s rather Sephni’s own developed power amplified by the magic of the Elven royal throne or whetever.
But remember that Sephni is just an NPC, no matter how powerful she does not even know what a period is. That’s unlike Bree, the DracoMage and the “good” orc chief with a weird feeling in the last page, all of whom we know are PCs (or DM in the DracoMage case).
Paige is also ‘just’ an NPC, so why did she get a headache?
I’m thinking that: Those touched by (so to speak) PCs; In range of PCs (Judging by Miko) and/or Protected by other powers, might be under aegis from the petrification effect. That or Spheni might pick and chose(explaining Capria)… but that the protection does not prevent the effect from being felt, even if it is denied, and that both Arka and Paige experienced that.
Miko was affected though
That’s why I suggested multiple possible conditions. No option seems guaranteed.
If it’s based on proximity to PCs or proximity to specific people, (perhaps it’s proximity to anyone who “felt it”), then maybe Miko was too far, but why was Capria effected? Alternatively, if it’s choice based, she was sad, and maybe Spheni wanted to make it up to her(or punish her, we’ll see). Again alternatively, maybe she didn’t interact with players “enough”.
Many possibilities. Could be something I didn’t mention too, like save DC’s (though that’d be odd).
What happened to the Orc shaman? Some are petrified, others suffering unspecific psychosomathic symptoms but she just lost an eye to shiny lava-like goo apparently, that’s the weirdest thing.
Also I feel this is not really the end as such… not everyone is petrified.
No, that was the injury from Warmheart
Yes, that was the “price” the spirits demanded of her for saving the red dragon.
Ah, OK, I forgot about that, TY.
And the elf woman in the last panel didn’t get petrified, but appears to be suckling an elf-orc halfbreed child.
I was actually going to ask if the baby was petrified and nobody had noticed yet. If it a lot greyer than it is green. And it would be just another thing that would make the orcs hate the elves, since they have now ‘taken’ their new children after killing the older ones.
I’m guessing the collar is preventing the ‘slave’ in that picture from changing, but there would have been nothing to protect the child.
Elder Scrolls lore says orcs are elves.
This was actually meant as a reply to the elf-orc halfbreed child comment.
So does Tolkien, although in his case they are elves that were corrupted by the power of Sauron.
I’m so confused!
It seems to work based on the association with the High Elven monarchy. Those that associate as subjects of the throne–knowingly or otherwise–are turned to stone. The elves not turned are either PCs (Bree), more loyal to PCs, or associate themselves with another master. This may be why the elven slave was not turned to stone, so far as she sees it, she serves Sark, not the elven people
Dark elf also turned, so it could be matter of closeness to throne.
Fairly sure Cap has her own throne…
I’d suggest it has to do with those who view themselves, and whom the current “Sovereign” also views as “Subjects of the Crown”.
I guess that the Orcs that were at war with the “Yellow Hairs” are going to be sorely disappointed when they get there, only to find out that everyone got “Stoned”.
But that is a good way to end a war without most of your population dieing & the rest enslaved.
