The fact she, Warmheart, is willing to defend the elf shows that she remembers Bree’s lesson from when she was at death’s door thanks to the Slayer at the Orc camp. Violence doesn’t solve all problems. But big ugly seems too stuck on stupid to know that true power cannot be taken, it has to be earned.
Her standing up to the bigger dragon is adorable though.
As supervillains go, this dragon lord is quite standard.
Which is the source of all power? I’d say it’s the magical art of manipulating people into doing your bidding but seems this guy is not really a people guy, so he’ll probably look somewhere else.
Is the “source” a person or a thing? If a person, then who? Any of the characters we’ve met so far? If a thing, right now The Root springs to mind, maybe. But Bree/Jen’s crown previously had significance. Or is it going to be something or someone completely unexpected, perhaps even quite new?
The debate starts here!
We still don’t know who or what is behind the Devourer and his minions in the Grey World. It’s probably that kind of trail, because when he says “the source of power” he clearly means “the source of evil”.
Unless it is Ms. Rainbows Jellybean but clearly not what he would consider a manageable kind of power: he’s not a hugging type of guy, clearly not.
Machiavelli was rather a good guy, he was just smeared by the Church for being “amoral” but the issue was that he did have ethics, although he was at the same time a hardcore realist. He was in the anti-oligarchic and patriotic side of things essentially and he was able to understand and even praise his rivals like Cesare Borgia. The Church was on the pro-oligarchic and anti-patriotic side of things, they essentially restored the Medici and effectively ended democratic Florence and left Italy as a fief of foreign powers for several centuries longer too.
There’s not a hint of Machiavelli in any D&D kind of stuff I’ve read so far. Not in this story nor any other, really. In any case he’d probably align as “neutral good”.
Maju, I mean when the dude first killed a maid for no good reason and someone using the name “Machiavelli” dissed him for making the amateurish mistake of needlessly inspiring hate (which we both remember is the core principle of “The Prince”, the whole “be feared if you can’t be loved, but do not be simply hated, for hate can overcome fear” thing he advised.
There NOT being any drop of Machiavelli’s wisdom in this dude’s blood is, precissely, the whole point.
Incidentally, here we have it: Warmheart hating this guy’s actions enough to overcome any fear she could have.
But you’re taking only a single commentary and out of context and also from The Prince and not from Discourse on Livy. You could take his commentary on Savonarola, whom he criticized not for being utopian but for not mustering an army to defend that utopia rather. Machiavelli was a realist, a pragmatic and a he didn’t pretend to be “moral”, although he was quite progressive for his day, just that he was a no-nonsense man who liked to speak rather clear and also to make sure that things worked. He was a prolific diplomat and politician when the Florentine Republic was not under oligarchic Medici management.
Something is telling me, scale-dick can’t understand what Warmie is saying (if she’s even saying anything), because there’s no chance in Chel she would have said that crap in the last panel
He doesn’t care. Even if she could talk and tell him not to kill any more innocent elves, that line would still be his take on it. Because that is the only thing he hears.
My draconic is quite rusty 😉 but basically she said the draconic equivalent of “STOP YOU IDIOT!”in panel 6, and “This is NOT the way to behave” in panel 8, and he understoood what he wanted to understand.
Was thinking along the lines of “Don’t fucking hurt another maid, bastard!” and “You may be bigger, but your dick is head height to a pissed off dragonette!” (specially considering his reaction 😛 )
Geez dude, really pushing for the all the awful evil(pitiful) leader tropes aren’t you? At least you’re teaching Warmheart what not to do.
Looove the backgrounds! Seriously good quality ^^

Looking forward to Bree and Sark settling this dude’s hash for good.
Did anyone else notice, the little dragon has cleavage at the bottom of the strip?
I did. These baby dragonettes mature fast, it seems.
Big Blue really shouldn’t have dropped those anger management courses.

I still laugh at Machiavelli dissing him, last time we saw him.

Good to see Warmie finally remembered who she was and stood up for the maid-elf

That late line would have an extra “r”, “Grrrr” instead of “Grrr”, I think to remember 😉
…what’s even the point of immortality if everything in life pisses you off? 🤔
He may be immortal, unfortunately he’s also immature 😛
Look at Warmheart willing to go to the mat for someone she barely knows. Good for her.
