Helping Hands
Apr01
Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been experimenting with using AI to help me with painting some background panels lately, and I’ve been so impressed with the quality of the results, that I’ve decided to just go ahead and take the plunge, using AI to generate all the art for the comic!
I think the results speak for themselves!
Shit like this is why I hate April Fools’ Day.
So realistic. No one is forcing me to say this, under threat of…
RUN! I’LL HOLD THEM Oerckkkkkkkkkkkkk
Perfect! Way better than usual style! Keep it like that! :)))
Those fingers, tho
I got dizzy just looking at them. Those and the foggy nipples. Yikes!
Nipples are foggy because AI learned that there’s something called censorship by pixelation, LOL.
I must say: It is nice to see an artist that embrace new and useful technology, rather than limiting themselves to the old and inefficient way.
Also don’t worry about the hands too much, I’m sure they will become accurate with future development in bio-engineering.:)
You were lucky this time. There are usually a few miscellaneous heads or extra legs lurking in the background – Oops! Love the Manga slant. But at least an AI Bree still gets her kit off.
Great April Fool Joke.
Well…. That’s certainly different 😀
Nooo!!! I liked your regular style! You can’t do this to me! Please, I’m sure you’ll find that you can work much more efficiently making your art the old-fashioned way. Don’t let AI take over. AI is out to kill all emotion! Think about it: AI is only imitating what it has gathered from the Internet. It’s not YOU, and since it’s not YOU, it usurps your personality and replaces it with its own lack of uniqueness. PLEASE reconsider!
Friendly reminder, CHECK THE DATE!
I like it!
LOL
All those pointy … little … tiny … chins! And those eyes … so big…
Only problem is that if this is for real, it’s going to take me a while to figure out who is who.
Despite the little hiccups on hands and other details, I still find it amazing what the A.I. can do.
Considering how far its come in just a few years I’d expect them to have a lot of the more obvious kinks straightened out over the next 5 years.
Five years? If AI is that bloody clever to take over the planet, it’s going to take THAT LONG to gets hands right, and not have all those extra legs and objects floating about as soon as the picture gets a bit complicated? Or those room backgrounds where the furniture doesn’t make sense? As we used to say in the computer industry: garbage in, garbage out.
AI is only as intelligent as the ones that use it. If there’s still problems with it, it’s because the users haven’t given any feedback on what is going wrong so the programmers can fix it.
Oh really…? ‘User’ … ‘programmer’ … ‘feedback’? You make this sound like going back to your local grocery store to complain the apples you just bought are off. Ever tried communicating with any of these giant tech companies, even if you know who they are? Someone I know has a problem with his DeviantArt page…Three months later he is still waiting to get an actual human response from them. Try phoning/e-mailing these mega-monopolies and complaining such-and-such doesn’t work! Microsoft Windows-11! Is shit. I’m not the only one thinks so. Are they listening?
You think DevianArt is giant?
This kind of AI is never going to take over the planet OR learn to do complicated pictures. It’s actually amazing how close it can get to something useful considering it has no actual understanding of objects. The reason it’s getting hands wrong is that it learned the shape of hand but is actually unable to think in abstract terms like “hand should have specific number of fingers”.
I’ve found that the best parallel for text to image AIs is good quality camera. You’ve got lots of settings and controls to manipulate but that still doesn’t guarantee a good picture. In most cases a photo session will result in a number of blah pics, a few OK/good ones and, if you are lucky, a small number of “Wow” ones. It’s the last ones you see in picture frames, posted on the web and the front cover of Vogue. AI is the same, you generate a sizeable batch of images and cherry pick the best to refine and/or post. With AI these best ones can be strikingly good, not up to top quality photographs yet, but good enough to fool most people on a 6X4 say or in a newspaper. Given that you can generate AI pictures with the face of a person of your choice, at a quality level that will pass casual scrutiny for most people, is a real concern. I’ve played with “deepfakes” a bit (not maliciously but for fun) and know just how convincing you can make them even with the limited tools available today. Spotting these is going to get more difficult as time goes on. I’m urging people to find available AI tools and experiment with them so they are aware of their capabilities and limitations so they are better able to spot the fakes and are a bit more careful about what they take for granted.
Yeah, as much as I like to poke fun at the quality of the raw renders, I love just playing around with the different models and seeing what new ideas it spits out. At the very least, its way more efficient than scrolling through Pinterest when you’re trying to come up with an idea for a cool pose or color palette.
I see this as the problem with AI. AI uses what everyone else is doing and molds it all into one “flavor.” You lose your unique individuality.
It is technically possible to preserve one’s individuality by only using one’s own images as input to train the AI. Of course, something like this requires little more resources than just using stock AI.
for the record, I know of at least one artist who does exactly that and the result is amazing. Sadly, I’m a smuck who lost the link AND the name.
If you put in enough work to tweak your prompts and edit the results, AI art can be very impressive. I just don’t care for the myth that AI art is just “push a button and get good art”.
Variable detail, the male seems to have 7 fingers, two of which are thumbs. No definition to Bree’s nipples, I don’t like it. Happy April Fools’ Day.
This may be the only time I have seen AI Art be used for something productive.
Damn, this page looks good
Wait… what happened to Breen’s nipples?
Is that Yoda or Gollum in a chef’s hat?
yes
This is a product of all the shrooms! XD
Lol. Okay, the shrooms angle is clever.
Even for a one-off joke, never to be repeated, this is disgusting. Use of A”I” is heinous no matter how little you do it. It’s like just murdering one cat.
