There’s nothing that sets the heart racing faster than finding yourself in a zone where all the monsters are much higher level than you. Except perhaps waking up butt-nekidd on a troll-infested beach, but that is another story… damned nixies.

Hey I really like your comic. I am working on putting one together involving a similar theme with a party of adventurers. You are an inspiration.
Thanks! Let us know when your comic is up. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
I know this feeling…Once I wrote up a party of 1st level AD&D (1st Edition) party of delvers & started them in a randomly-rolled dungeon, as it appeared in the Dungeon Master’s Guide. After a bit of running around with little trouble, they wound up on a one-way elevator (24 hours before it would work again) that took them straight to the 10th Level of the dungeon.
The basic plan they had was to camp out right where they were & hope that they could wait for the elevator to work again. One Random Monster Encounter roll later, the party was nearly wiped out. Next Random Encounter roll, there was a 12th Level delving party that I had to roll up for the encounter. Only by using my wits was I able to salvage two of the 1st Level party with a daring escape. It almost felt like a Dr. Who episode…It involved lots of running, before doubling back to the elevator that was able to function again by that time, but one of the two party members remaining didn’t make it back out.
That happened to me playing a roguelike – “power sword”, TRS-80. One of the traps was a pit trap. Dropped me from level 4 to 7. And then some thief I fought stole my magic sword.
I believe the technical term is “boned”.
