Idiot elf does not understand the idea of range. And she hasn’t learned that people don’t fall over and die right away except in some very specific circumstances. Cutting things off works. Disconnecting the computer from the peripherals works. Making a big slash to the abdominal wall won’t stop someone immediately.
usually the shock from a cut to the lower torso deep enough to not cut you in half only because the blade glided over the vertebral column TENDS to be an instant incapacitation, to be fair.
The guy who was running had had his abdomen opened with a golok. It doesn’t get more “major slash” than that. And a .300 Winchester Bowler partition bullet definitely causes hydrostatic shock.
That’s two arm’s lengths. And after the cut, Paige went right into the grapple range instead of stepping backwards out of the opponent’s reach, as she should have.
Arms length and a half plus arms length. That’s range. And then charging into a range where your sword isn’t very useful and someone bigger and stronger can grab you. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
It’s not dumb. What is dumb is that zombies could even exist, how do you keep death from being dead. Frankenstein is not real. Death is silent and pasive, the end of every energy flow we call life, except that of the parasites that suddenly prey on your idle remains.
Undead irk me so much, especially zombies but also vampires. I think fantasy should be about alt-life, sorta “realistic”, maybe goblins and elves actually live in another planet and what we call magic is just technology we don’t understand… and it’s used to create the occasional furry out of fusing a humanoid and a cat within evil and forbidden “magical” experimentation, stuff like that is what my fantasy fantasizes about, not dead bodies walking, let alone eating.
Anyway, I would have done exactly the same: hit first, think later.
Pretty sure that this genre? direction? does exist, but it’s not actually called “fantasy”. “Soft sci-fi”, maybe? Anyway, I think you’d probably enjoy Philip J. Farmer’s non-erotic works.
Pick up those goalposts and MOVE them. You don’t know much about any kind of edged weapons. And that’s fine. What’s not fine is trying to cover yourself with glory by changing the subject when you’re caught out
Nice, @Joker_vD: I take note of Farmer for future readings.
@Tsath: I know enough about weapons to know that you have to get on the enemy if you want to hurt them. What can a slow moving zombie do anyhow? Well, apparently move fast, which is… unexpected, especially with much of their body pouring out of itself as he does…
*Yes, I’m old enough to have zombies being only slow cannon fodder trash, whose only worth was resilience to death, contagion by bite and massive numbers. But so is the author.
No, unlike Bree, she was ‘stay-at-home’, making magic spells and hugging trees. Remember how fearful she was when we first meet her. She has come a long way since, slain a few baddies.
Paige helped bring out the dark side of Bree again… I mean I don’t blame her, she got in a good strike, but left herself just vulnerable enough for Bree to worry.
…That said I don’t think the orc is living through the next page.
Oh common people. Zombies. Headstrike! (Do Paige and Bree not watch movies? Or even remember what happened a couple of pages ago?) Even if it’s not a zombie, a headshot usually ends all further fuss and muss.
Paige is not a PC, she is a full Delvonian (Delvite?), she only had a brief time in GreySide where she picked up Jen’s sword (and raided her closet for clothes)
Paige is in rage mode after seeing ZomOrc nomming on a leg (that is presumably her elf boyfriends)
All in and half out

Has she never gone hunting?

I have seen deer shot through both lungs and the heart go close to a mile before falling over
Also, my old Solar teacher once saw a guy with a folk running down the street chased by a guy holding his guts in with one hand
Silat . farking auto carrot
You realize that both things are puncture wounds, right? A major slash is a completly different matter.

God dam autocorrect
Nosler pwrtition
What range when your only weapon is a katana?! That’s arm’s length range, maybe arm’s length plus a half?
*facepalm*
That’s two arm’s lengths. And after the cut, Paige went right into the grapple range instead of stepping backwards out of the opponent’s reach, as she should have.
Insert Yoda quote about anger leading to the Dark Side (or at least to the Dumb Side)
It’s be two arms lenght if you stabbed, but those weapons are typically used to hack and slash rather, so 1.5 it is at most.
That’s because she was still moving when she sliced, it’s called ‘momentum’

And non-undead vampires are fine IMHO.

He’s a zombie, he’s not been living for several pages already.
They are not LITERALLY zombies. Just way over the point of no return regarding the poison.
They’ve got full zombie. Never go full zombie.
Oh, and I already got the new ND book.
Thanks! I hope you like it.
I’m a simple zombie orc: I see Paige’s nipple and she’s got all my attention.
Bree: “good job, sis, just as requested”.
Heh heh 8)

To be fair, destroying the brain does tend to kill most things pretty darn quick.
-5 to hit, +10 to dmg
