Thanks for the reminder, Mace. But, after painful reading of a definitely too long text, they do not clarify who is Sephni after all. They just say she does has a counterpart in the Grayzone and that is a more tortured soul than the others. I have speculated in the past that maybe GraySephni is a man, because of her total lack of awareness about menstruation, but otherwise I have no clue.
Guess we’ll find out soon.
We also get no further information about what role is playing the Mindripper exactly. I’ll presume he might be an NPC and thus he’s being controlled by DM-Brian. Hmm…
Yeah, was just thinking: it can’t be Brian, he’s busy with DM and Teal, so it has to be one of the other players, someone who maybe got hold of Brian’s notes to know so much about Tuul’s background
she started seeing herself as a monster, so she could ignore it all and act as if none of it was of her concern
but here she was subtly reminded of who she really was, and all the horror she went thru, all the tortures, all the deaths and forced revival, not even being able to escape thru death, nor able to go back to reality
Huh, and just when I was starting to formulate a strong dislike. I may have to revise me opinion yet.
I’ll reserve judgement for now, but I certainly seems to be wielding interesting intent, if not power or personality. Though I have to admit the earlier pun was a rather good one.
Eh I disagree. I’m NOT about to say he’s a good guy–I highly doubt that based on what we know thus far. I suspect there’s some design beyond simply inflicting pain, though–and he needs Sephni lucid for it.
Maybe. Still, the way the guy looks and presents himself is someone who sees himself as far more than a blunt instrument–lawful evil type, if you will. And they’re not shy about hurting people, even for their own amusement, but there’s usually a method to their madness.
We’re meant to hate this guy, and jump to conclusions. That just tells me there’s going to be a lot more going on in his head as we progress. Wormius isn’t shy with pulling a fast one on us.
I disagree, or at least disagree with the leap to conclusion (I can understand it, but I believe it is a tad rash and emotional). If he’d been shown targeting a random group? Sure.
This is no random group, however, and I do not believe it is a random encounter either. There are many, many reasons he could be doing what he is that do not apply to other similar situations. There is no guarantee that he isn’t hurting them to hurt them, but there is no guarantee that he is either. There are too many options on the table yet.
For example, members of the party (Sephni especially) may come out of this ordeal “better adjusted”, or with an “altered perspective”. And those are hardly the only possibilities.
Okay, Zach clearly knows more than he should. “Stupid potato” and “sweetie bear” are most likely childhood nicknames of Tuul and Sephni. Tuul was simply reminded of some traumatic exprience, while Sephni probably remembered something from her soul twin’s life.
Now this rises a question – why the hell did he introduce himself as a locksmith? Is this some kind of metaphor, like he can open the doors between dimensions or something?
I imagine it’s more a metaphorical “Keys to the mind” or “unlocking your memories”, ect. He probably could’ve said he was a “detective” or possibly a “thief” (breaking/sneaking in to your mind and perusing what you have hidden away, possibly bringing repressed bits to the top)… but “Locksmith” sounds so much more *reputable*, and mayhaps *surgical*.
Also, “locksmith” is one of the classic rogue cover professions in tabletop RPGs. If this is, indeed, Mindripper (& I note a distinct likeness to the dagger’s inner self, now that I’m looking), rogue is probably at the base of his build.
So this Guy IS the mind ripper souless half and previous owner.
We knew the souless part was a man and that we would meet him in the future.
He is if the same race if his soul counterpart, IS cruel and have some mind power. Fit the description
Now THAT is interesting. Is Sephni an Avatar too?
Also, (presumably) Mindripper is clearly living up to his name.

You might want to re-read this. Phawkes and Prancy uh, lay out the plot.

Possibly Chris, the guy who “created” the Devourer in the first place.
Yeah, was just thinking: it can’t be Brian, he’s busy with DM and Teal, so it has to be one of the other players, someone who maybe got hold of Brian’s notes to know so much about Tuul’s background
I don’t remember that Chris guy but I’ll take your word for it.
Yeah, don’t remember ‘Chris’ either, thought it was Brian who created the Devourer, as a way to keep Jen part of the group
Okay, Zachary just got a little more interesting. Can’t help but like an asshole who turns out to be more than just some asshole.
No, an arsehole is still an arsehole, no matter what shit they spew out
Oh he’s 100% still an asshole, but I’m curious to see what game he’s playing now. He doesn’t seem to be pretentious completely for the sake of it.
Spoken like a true asshole
>8I…………
Doesn’t look like if the pain ended.

Sometimes only intent differentiates a Surgeon from a torturer.
I just realized… when this guy is attacking others’ minds, his eyes go from brown to light blue… like the horror children in that old movie…
Huh, and just when I was starting to formulate a strong dislike. I may have to revise me opinion yet.
I’ll reserve judgement for now, but I certainly seems to be wielding interesting intent, if not power or personality. Though I have to admit the earlier pun was a rather good one.
No, hold on to that dislike
The only ‘intent’ this fuckwad is wielding, is deliberate pain, and they are enjoying it
Eh I disagree. I’m NOT about to say he’s a good guy–I highly doubt that based on what we know thus far. I suspect there’s some design beyond simply inflicting pain, though–and he needs Sephni lucid for it.
Yeah, so he can hurt her more
Can’t hurt someone who is unaware of their surroundings, or believes it all to be a dream
Maybe. Still, the way the guy looks and presents himself is someone who sees himself as far more than a blunt instrument–lawful evil type, if you will. And they’re not shy about hurting people, even for their own amusement, but there’s usually a method to their madness.

He’s also not shy in playing it straight, with no tricks

Is he… a bard using Vicious Mockery?
He’s the Mindripper, so he’s a psycho-rogue who rips minds. An unusual build…
So this Guy IS the mind ripper souless half and previous owner.

In slightly unrelated news, this is one of the few SFW pages: acceptably modest amount of bare skin, no nipples/bulges poking out, etc.
Truly, the plot necessity is a cruel mistress.
The only thing that ends pain is knowledge.
You’re talking mad shit for a food animal…
