This page reminds me of the Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! Much like an evil demon guy (or the rest of us) would never expect a blue sedan to drive out of his stomach.
Now please I find myself hoping that Jennifer Balfour finds herself at some point being entertained by the Dracomage and wearing that bust-enhancing dress that we saw earlier. Okay, among many things I find myself hoping for in this storyline…
Unexpected or not, in many fantasy settings “cold iron” is a dangerous substance for various characters, and a whole lot of that stuff has just arrived on the scene. Maybe it will be useful….
You know, I’ve always enjoyed it when contemporary people find themselves in fantasy settings, ever since I read The Doomfarers of Coramonde. (It and it’s sequel are excellent, by the way.) Frankly, I wish it was done more often.
And I’m not sure who’s in more pain, Draxorel from the sudden automotive chest-burster, or me from that pun. Ye gods man.
As one who have read far too many of that kind of no-wells, I can tell you that mere fact of the existence of any of the overwhelming majority of them stands for a irrefutable reason for spoonfeeding this world to the Devourer.
This is a case there one should wish for better, not more.
It’s become an entire sub-genre, “RPG fiction”. Rather popular in Japan, with things such as “Overlord”, “Sword Art Online”, “That Time I Was Reincarnated As a Slime”, etc.
Not only in Japan. Russia and .ru zone are practically soaking in that foul shite. Though, I must note, “shifters” is a genre more broad and deep than RPG-fiction, if only so ever slightly. It includes not only people who got stuck in the computer game/ world with rpg-based laws of nature, but – not unlike abovementioned Coramonde duology – people (usually of MarySueish inclination) who got shifted – hence the name – into another time/world. Like, say, GATE Jieitai Kanochi nite, if we are to look to Nippon for consistency sake.
Usually such people gain a bunch of powers during/soon after a shift, of which Plot Armour of TTGL proportions, and sexual prowess that’ll make Priapus himself choke to death on his own member due to burning envy – well, borrowing examples from RPG, thouse abilities would be considered as Level 0 cantrips among the powerset of the Shifter.
I can forgive mr. Daley – it was 1977 after all, and he was able to prevent himself from sliding into democracy proselytizing – but there is literally no excuse for the overwhelming majority of others.
Does anyone know who the tiny people in panel 1 are supposed to be?
I’ certain the green one on top of the platform is Teal, on the bottom riding the crocodile should be Ssithikus (see p.309). But who is that hanging from the underside of the platform? I would guess Kestrel and Tasche (color and body shape would fit), but Kestrel supposedly died on p.298…
Was wondering that as well, fairly sure the one at the top of stairs is Teal, possibly the one dangling upside down is Bree’s body, not sure who is holding on to Bree though…
Tonight on Cadillacs and Catastrophes, Bree’s creator joins a world where clothes are frequently torn, burned, and utterly discarded… She may soon miss the old DM!
I guess that would depend mostly on the manufacturing year of that auto. Most cars are made with a V6 anymore & it’s a heck of a lot more difficult to buy a V8 unless you buy a car that’s already a couple of decades old (unless you have a lot of money).
In the context of both the author’s blurb under the comic & Blaydewind’s comment, V8 refers to the type of engine in a car…A V8 is also an engine with 8 cylinders & 8 pistons. The Packard V12 Engine was originally built for airplanes in WW2, but also used in automobile manufacturing afterward (http://uniquecarsandparts.com/lost_marques_packard.htm). Try tromping your foot down on the accelerator of one of those babies!
😀
Yes, I also recognized it as the pun referring to the veggie drink too. I’m a regular drinker of it.

Except if you live in Spain: then you should always expect the Spanish Inquisition… but not the comfy chair.
Said that, I did not see that coming either, really.

Unless, that car is made out of plastic and fibreglass…
Heh heh 8)
@Bob-AW
>blue sedan
not anymore
Welcome to the world you’ve been playing in, Jen.
Whoah! Talk about Meta-Gaming!
A DM’s worst nightmare…
I.. Do not think Jen’s insurance will cover this…
Desdemona: Her rates will certainly go up in either case…crashing into a magical dungeon is likely not in her policy.

demon lords and cadillacs anyone?
Heh heh 8)

That makes two of us, Nogrog.

That certainly wasn’t a Dodge Devourer.
Hah!

… and out walks Ash. Shotgun and chainsaw ready “Dammit Rudy, I said Jacksonville not where ever the he’ll this is.”

Starts playing the ‘Heavy Metal’ theme in the background. Looks like Jen is the new Taarna.
I kept thinking of Heavy Metal when reading about the SpaceX thing. 8)
…says the one whose eyes are deliberately covered.
Also, I think that car’s gonna need a wash…
But then you gotta unscrew the radio antenna.
Check again. No antenna (although there is a socket for it). Unless the antenna got lost in the board-to-digital translation, it’s just not there.
now is this still the D&D or did she actually cross over?
I’m pretty sure she is Bree. I figure she died in a car crash and some joker reincarnated her and a few others in the same D&D game she was playing.
IIRC, the player ran out of the game and was driving off.
Technically it looks like he DID have a V8…
Just didn’t agree with him.

V8 is a type of ‘health’ drink, made with vegetables

My money is on it’s the Blues Brothers. They’re on a mission for some God in this universe.
Looks like Jen is…
Trapped in time…
Surrounded by evil…
..Low on gas.
*puts on sunglasses*
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I AM THE LAWGIVA!
