Plus the reason Kindall is so freaked out is because he’s just been through the “be grievously hurt, regenerate, rinse, repeat” routine a few times. Exactly the kind of actual torture Sephni has alreay been through so many times, she’s actually used to it to the point she no longer freaks out. If someone can now wear that collar without getting crazy, it’s her.
If that is or isn’t because she’s *already* crazy, remains to be seen.
It also desensitizes you to the natural ways, you become less and less attuned with human emotions and end up as a tyrant. A good leader or even a proper human is an individual who understand the pain of the livings.
If you’ve read the Lord of the Rings, you might understand my point. The ring, however powerful as a force of good it can be, always end up warping the mind of the wearer. Who was it again, the one you said “Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely”?
One ring contained power and possibly part of soul of Sauron and was DEFINITELY turning people to be more evil. There was no such problem with three just little less powerful rings created by same “technology”, as visible on Galadriel, Olorin (Gandalf) and Elrond.
This ring doesn’t protect you against pain ; just against death. Hardly absolute power.
Also, it was John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, first Baron Acton (1834–1902). “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”
If I had a collar of immortality, I would totally become an asshole. At that point, your only fear would be to end up losing what has become most important to you: the collar. The continuity of your life will end up to be the most important thing, at the detriment of others if needs be.
Putting the collar back on might say she doesn’t seen dying as a problem anymore, so what kind of monster think that way?
One drawback to that collar: its power only ‘kicks in’ when you ‘kick the bucket’, a good torturer can keep you alive, and in pain, for a very long time
And Sephni is putting the collar back on because she views dying as a big problem, not despite it
She is showing her love for Kindal just as he showed his for her. He made sure she could not die but instead enjoy a long life. By taking away collar she makes it harder for him to escape (won’t instantly heal) but will get to enjoy all the love her allies can give him in his long life.
I now want a Sephni stoey where she’s like some immortal Paladin who keeps loosing her clothes and possibly eaten only to come back over and over…. where death is merely an annoying setback for her. Would be fun to read.
Checkov: “Blood sample, Checkov. Skin sample, Checkov. If I live, I’m going to run out of samples.”
Sulu: “Oh, I think you’ll live.”
Checkov: “Yes…But I’m not going to like it.”
Something tells me that Kindall isn’t going to much like living either…
Eh I dont really see them as masochistic. They may beat him or inflict pain but I doubt mutilation/amputation is in the cards for him. Most likely locked up by his lonesome to toil away in solitary confinement going insane with only his thoughts to keep him company.
Woohoo! I picked the right day to come back and check!
Oh, and: First!
Check? What is this “check”? RSS feeds are your friend.
I visit and vote every day. Part of the morning routine, comics and coffee 🙂

I’m not sure putting the creepy collar back on is a good idea.
It is a magic time that heals you if you are hurt. If it doesn’t at same time turn you to be more evil, etc, most would see that as good thing.
Plus the reason Kindall is so freaked out is because he’s just been through the “be grievously hurt, regenerate, rinse, repeat” routine a few times. … I mean “this collar”.

blib,
I bet you’ve read “The Forever King” a couple of times 😉
One drawback to that collar: its power only ‘kicks in’ when you ‘kick the bucket’, a good torturer can keep you alive, and in pain, for a very long time

Well Sephni did not do what I thought she would do, after the shit that Kindal put her through.
She is showing her love for Kindal just as he showed his for her. He made sure she could not die but instead enjoy a long life. By taking away collar she makes it harder for him to escape (won’t instantly heal) but will get to enjoy all the love her allies can give him in his long life.
Thought she was talking to Capria about their love

Also, dem hips and tits… purrrrfection!

Some of the worst threats and things to do to a person involve making sure they live through it.
And remember every second in excruciating detail.
Just remembered when Bree first encountered Kindall…

Funny how things have come full circle!
All the more reason to like Capria!
Throw the bastard in the stinkiest smelliest cell you can find.
Assuming you can find one even stinkier and smellier than HE is.
Oh yeah, he’s gonna be wishing for that collar back soon, or at least maybe a chance to actually die >:}
Hey, Kindall! You look like shit!
Well, you *are* covered in shit and also are a piece of shit, so that may be a default state for you from now on.
WHy does Sephinis words remind me of Pinhead stating your suffering will be legendary even in hell.?
Sephni said “spare his life”… nothing was said about “body parts” or “intact” though.
The only thing they need to keep intact, is his mind
Eh I dont really see them as masochistic. They may beat him or inflict pain but I doubt mutilation/amputation is in the cards for him. Most likely locked up by his lonesome to toil away in solitary confinement going insane with only his thoughts to keep him company.
Do you mean Sadistic? Masochistic means enjoying receiving pain not causing it.
“when the women come to cut up your remains”…
Yeah, I don’t envy that guy.
