Minus the gun, which Phawkes might want to put into a duffel bag, I think the two of them could walk down any urban street in the Americas, Europe, Japan and like places and not draw any more than amused comments about their cosplay costumes.
I’d be concerned if I ever watch a giant bipedal cat walking up the street. I’ve got (somewhat) used to stumble on people of every ethnicity other than mine all the time but they are humans! A talking cat is something else altogether and as impossible to dissimulate as a little green man.
Also people in Europe mostly do not cosplay at all. That’s something from the USA and Japan.
It looks like a hospital, even to me, and my only experiences of hospital wards are in the UK. Those beds cost a small fortune. And, if Brian says he’s in hospital, then he’s in a hospital. The Graysider world is a long time pre-Covid, so no problem with two biped cats, one in full military militia gear, wandering in and out, or a green slime-girl wearing only Brian’s shirts.
Is that Fawkes? He looks a completely new cat character to me. In my memory Fawkes is black and has no stripes, he also dresses like someone the 19th century’s British Army, as if he was in the Zulu War or something like that. Fine: he could have change outfit but where did his new stripes come from?
Nope, he has always had the four stripes on his face, and as Shockwave07 linked, he lost the eye when they fought against Drax the Devourer (or at least the cultists attempting to summon Draxie)
Phawkes would have looked soooo conspicuous in that British Imperial outfit, tunic and pith helmet, I mean, now he fits nicely into the average US city street-life, in full combat fatigues and armed to the teeth. Who will notice he (and Prancy – who already looks a bit shell-shocked) are human-size biped cats? Love Phawke’s woollen military-style headgear, even with the holes for ears – must have gone to a classy shop! He lost the eye (Nelson-style) in combat with the Devourer, way back when saving Selphni, before we even meet Brian.
Late to the comment, but I must point Phawkes is not, nor was before, wearing military uniforms.
He’s always wearing HUNTING clothes. He is repeatedly stated to be a hunter – a GREAT one.
His old clothes are military-style but in non-military color (white, not red), a.k.a. his world’s version of the famed “safari style” of the real world.
And his graysider cammo and wool clothing is not military fatigues but a thick, hooded parka with a turtleneck; this is typical XXI century hunting clothes. Hey, my spouse owns a very similar parka…
Figured Phawkes would be more partial toward a M70/700 bolt action as opposed to a AR-10, though he probably went with the AR for the twenty round mag.
Phawkes favorite carbine was a .455 revolving repeater, very likely based upon a totally-not-a-Webley revolver. I guess he likes long arms that don’t force him to fiddle with reloading levers or bolts. Small wonder he grabbed a semi auto.
Yes, I waffled quite a bit over that decision. While you can’t go wrong with the trusty old bolt-action, I decided that, confronted with the options available in Brian’s neck of the Grayside, Phawkes is still, at heart, a cat, and would probably jump at the chance to play with the new shiny thing.
We’ve got several storylines running simultaneously, and at this point, I need to keep them all juggled at once, since they will effect each other eventually. Sorry about the jumping from scene to scene, but I can’t think of a better way to keep everything running without hitting a plotline trainwreck further down the line.
I could see Phawkes going for a M110 system however if he had a choice he may take the M700. Guess it depends on the job he needs done, the M110 would give h pretty good range with a better rate of fire over the M700.
Problem is, last time I checked, civilian versions of the M110 were either made to order (read: unavailable on short notice) or actually based off an AR10 frame. Small wonder he choosed an actual AR10. As for the M700, given his favorite longarms most definitely don’t have a bolt (https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/unforgiven/) and the last time he used a longarm that most likely had a bolt (https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/ralphie/) it was NOT his favorite (you don’t leave your favorite carbine in a hidden cache where you may likely not recover it!) AND he lost an eye… I’d say he won’t touch that M700 even if you smear it in catnip.

We seem to hail from different parts of Europe. I’ll leave it at that-
What part of Europe are you from? Some USized place like Britain or the Netherlands?
Chueca
Nah, I don’t think Brits cosplay either. Somewhere even more USized: Poland, Croatia, Russia maybe?
Sumthin’ tells me he ain’t in no hospital. 😛
You think Brian could afford a bed like that on his own? Including the medical equipment?

Sir Branwell, always the accomplished professional hunter… not to imply that he hunts as (gasp) as a JOB, mind you.

Also when did he lose an eye?
He always had darker facial stripes (see #59) https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/phawkes/
Grayside graying things gray just makes it more noticeable.
The clothes thing is adressed in this very strip’s author’s comment (notice Prancy also is wearing a modern suit instead of a XIX century oine)
And he loses his eye in #297 (https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/ralphie/), is seen without it for the first time in #322 (https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/tooth-for-eye/) and sporting the eyepatch in #440 (https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/spoiler-alert/)
I barely remember er this since it’s been so long, but I remember that happening to Fawkes when he fought the last big boss.
Found it: http://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/ralphie/

Noticed searching for something else, his own world’s appeareances have him with the same Grayside gray fur and dashed stripes, see https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/extreme-prejudice/ , https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/in-honor-of-the-occasion/ , https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/p-and-p/, https://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/april-showers/
Thank you all for your replies. I can’t obviously trust my memory anymore, I guess.
Wait, what reinforcements? o_O
My money is on Beddigan. My second-favorite guess, Jane, was specifically stated to be left behind.
… Jane?
Jane Prancy, Mr. Prancy’s much more capable and attractive older sister. First mentioned in #198 (April Showers, http://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/april-showers/) an actually appearing in #270 (Extreme Prejudice, http://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/extreme-prejudice/) and #541 (Fanbase, http://thisis.delvecomic.com/NewWP/comic/fanbase/)
(BTW, what is Prancy’s given name? He’s always refered to by his surname…

What happened to the arc we were on?

Could we get Prancy and Fawkes going shopping on the grey side as a voting incentive?
I imagine it would be a fun scene
“WHAT KIND OF ‘MODERN’ CIVILIZATION NO LONGER USES PITH HELMETS, PRANCY?”
